Ethiopia Genji Challa
Bright, Floral, Alive
A washed community lot from the Genji Challa kebele in Gera, deep in the Djimma highlands of western Ethiopia — landrace varieties grown above 2,100 meters that cup mandarin-bright, jasmine-floral, and unmistakably Ethiopian.
Smallholder farmers here work plots of one hectare or less, intercropping coffee with banana and native shade trees and hauling cherry to collection centers by motorcycle, horse, or donkey. At the Gera washing station, cherries are mechanically depulped, soaked overnight, and dried slow over 6–8 days on raised beds. This is a region where coffee keeps the forest standing — the crop needs a healthy ecosystem, so the ecosystem stays.
Tasting Notes: Mandarin, jasmine, raspberry
