About the Coffee: This lot comes from women producers on Idjwi Island, a remote island in Lake Kivu in eastern DR Congo. Grown at high elevations and fully washed, this coffee is bright and structured with juicy tropical fruit up front, soft plum sweetness, and a mellow cocoa finish. Careful fermentation and slow drying create clarity and balance in the cup. It shines as a filter coffee and holds its own as a lively, fruit-forward espresso.
About the Producers: This coffee is produced by members of Rebuild Women’s Hope, a women-led cooperative founded in 2013 to address inequality in agriculture and expand economic opportunity for women in eastern Congo. Through access to processing infrastructure, education, and market connections, the cooperative helps women gain financial independence and leadership within their communities. Every cup reflects not just quality coffee, but progress rooted in dignity and long-term impact.
I think everyone would get tired of me exclaiming that each new flavor is my current favorite.
So instead I’ll state that I love this new brew. It’s an immense pleasure to have notes of pineapple as a primary again. Something I haven’t experienced from portrait since I first found them a couple years ago! This bean is fruit forward, delicious and does an excellent job at balancing acidity, cocoa’s signature bitterness and the sweetness of the plum to create something I look forward to every morning.
What else can I say other than, portrait does it again! And it’s why I keep coming back.
